[FAST News] Notes for the week/New Coach

Some news and notes for this week after hopefully a great Memorial Day weekend.

1.  Please note that the B/C meet this weekend is a 2 day meet and NOT a 3 day meet.  The meet is Saturday/ Sunday only.  The FAST calendar has it listed as a 3 day meet which is incorrect.

2.  Please note that we will not be attending the Tyler BB meet.  We have had only 1 swimmer sign up for the meet and therefore have not reached a minimum number for travelling that distance.  The coaches would like to encourage more of the BB swimmers to sign up for the next BB meet coming up in June.  And please remember the BB Champs meet in July.  We would like to see a good turnout for that meet as it is a championship meet.

3. We would like to welcome back Michael Verdeyen.  Michael will be taking over the Blue and Bronze groups for the summer.  We have looked at multiple candidates for the position, however several of the ones who were in interested in the position were not able to start the job in the spring and taking it over on short notice with summer plans already made would not have been possible.  However we have people who are interested in the job starting back in the short course season and on a longer term basis after they are able to shift plans and schedules.  With this in mind, we have decided to have Michael act as an interim coach during the summer as he was very enthusiastic about coming back on board and getting to coach with FAST to show what he can do. This then allows us to bring someone in for the fall who will have been able to make arrangements to be here on a more permanent basis.  While not a perfect solution and we were looking for a permanent coach to start immediately, we felt that this could be a very workable situation with the eye on a longer term coach the goal in mind, even if we have to wait 2 months if it meant being able to have someone coaching these groups who would have more permanence.  We would like to welcome Michael back and encourage swimmers and parents to make Michael feel welcome.  He will be of help to the team during this time of transition and has indicated his desire to do so and we feel he will be enthusiastic to do so.    
  We will be having a parent/coach meeting this Thursday May 29 at the pool at 6:00p.m. and invite parents from Blue and Bronze to come in and meet Michael.  He will be there to give out some information and answer your questions.
